Neil is a professionally registered Civil Engineer representing the Lobunye Group (as a shareholder) and the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of LYNERS.
Neil obtained his BSc (Eng) (Civil) from the University of Cape Town in 1985. After a brief stint in the construction industry with Clifford Harris, he joined Aurecon as a Design and Resident Engineer in April 1988 and became an Associate in 1995. Neil registered as a Professional Engineer in 1992. He co-founded Lyners Adams in May 1997 and established Neil Lyners and Associates in March 1999.

- 2002 to 2004: Western Cape Branch Chairman and Councillor of Consulting Engineers South Africa (CESA)
- May 2004: Elected Fellow of the South African Institution of Civil Engineering
- 2005 to 2013: Councillor with Boland College
- 2014 to 2017: Reviewer of the Engineering Council of South Africa
- Since January 2015: Member of the Advisory Board of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of Stellenbosch University
