This project involved the doubling and comprehensive rehabilitation of a 3.0 km stretch of Plattekloof Road, a key arterial route in the northern suburbs of Cape Town, between Tygerberg Valley Road and Gert van Rooyen Avenue. The scope included the construction of a new 3.0 km carriageway alongside the rehabilitation of the existing one, significantly improving traffic capacity, flow, and road safety in this high-demand corridor.
Works also included the installation of a new stormwater drainage system to manage increased surface runoff and prevent future flooding. Three major intersections were upgraded to improve traffic efficiency and pedestrian safety. In addition, the project required the careful protection, relocation, and coordination of multiple bulk services, including water, electricity, and telecommunications, ensuring minimal disruption to residents and businesses during construction.
The Plattekloof Road upgrade forms part of the City of Cape Town’s broader initiative to enhance mobility, infrastructure resilience, and urban integration in rapidly growing suburban areas.
